Please rationalize:
In Matthew 25:1 Jesus says: "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom."
In John 20:17 Jesus says to Mary: "Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father," as though the touch of a woman is somehow improper, but a few verses later, is happy to have Thomas touch him.
In Genesis chapter 3, God punishes Eve, and all women for thousands of years, with greatly increased pain during childbirth. No such pain is inflicted on Adam.
In Deuteronomy 22:28-29 we find this: "If a man meets a virgin who is not engaged, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are caught in the act, the man who lay with her shall give fifty shekels of silver to the young woman’s father, and she shall become his wife. Because he violated her he shall not be permitted to divorce her as long as he lives." So, what God is saying is if you are a man, and you rape a girl, she gets to be your wife. Very nice
Is God sexist? If so, are we wrong to think of women as equals? Look for yourself...?
The Bible is a sexist book because it is a product of sexist writers from patriarchal societies. Some say that women are subservient to men, but that we're also lucky to be given a delicate status to be cared for by superior men. I think it's contradictory to say women are subservient yet equal. The Old Testament portrays women as spoils of war whose value can be determined by sexual experience (Judges 21:11-12). In the New Testament, the apostle Paul was nearly as misogynistic. In his epistles (1 Corinthians 11:3-7, Ephesians 5:22-24, 1 Timothy 2:11-12) he clearly shows his distrust of women. The few verses that show men and women as equals are far outnumbered by those that don't.
Reply:No, God is not sexist. Men are sexist. Jesus had disciples who were female, such as Mary of Magdalena. He welcomed all who would listen to him. If God were sexist, Jesus probably wouldn't have allowed women to listen to His Word, let alone sit in his presence. The next most important human being in the world wouldn't have been a woman, the Mother Of God, and she would not be so revered. It also would not have been a woman (again, Mary of Magdaelena) who was the one to discover Jesus' empty tomb when he arose from the dead, being given the responsibility of finding and telling the Apostles that Jesus had fulfilled God's promise. Mary already knew that Jesus was alive, she already believed and did not need the proof of touch, but Thomas did not believe until he could feel the wounds, as he had declared when Mary first told the Apostles of his rising. Why do you think he is referred to as Doubting Thomas?
Adam IS punished. He's kicked out of The Garden of Eden. Oh yeah, and he's forced to stay married to Eve, and listen to her turn the story around so that eating the Forbidden Fruit is really all his fault.
Reply:well when men wrote the bible i don't think they cared about womens rights
Reply:yeah, men were such sexist pigs back then...
Reply:Can imaginary beings even BE sexist?
Reply:Wow...you apparently don't look at verses within the context.
Matthew 25:1 is a parable.
John 20:17 does no such thing to insult Mary.
Genesis 3 punishes Eve with childbirth and Adam with labor of having to raise his own crops and toil the earth. That's pain.
The list goes on and on.
Esther is a woman. Romans 16 lists female deacons of the Roman church. Timothy's mother and grandmother are both praised.
Stop picking and choosing things out of the Bible to try to disprove it and look at the whole picture.
Reply:WOMEN BANKROLLED JESUS' MINISTRY...
Luke 8:1 After this, Jesus traveled around from one town and village to another. He announced the good news of God’s kingdom. The Twelve were with him.
--%26gt; 2 So were some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses. One was Mary Magdalene. Seven demons had come out of her. 3 Another was Joanna, the wife of Cuza. He was the manager of Herod’s household. Susanna and many others were there also. These women were helping to support Jesus and the Twelve with their own money.
You present a misrepresented view of Jesus and his ministry and teaching. Jesus was not an oppressor of women and got in the way of men who would do that. He spoke to women in public, unheard of in Jewish society (John 4:7ff), and accepted them as individuals and as his followers.
EQUALITY is one of the "big pictures" of New Testament life. Galatians 3:28 There is no Jew or Greek. There is no slave or free person. There is no male or female. Because you belong to Christ Jesus, you are all one.
Reply:You don't have to believe everything you read. (consider the source)
Does God punish women or does man punish women?( and men and everything else that lives)
Equal? What is equal? There is strength and weakness in everything. We compliment each other. Hopefully.
Reply:God is not sexist but many man made societies are.
Reply:Yet the bible says a man should be willing to give his life for his wife?
You do not understand the Bible, and you purposely mislead; therefore, you do not understand the hate that you preach.
Reply:Most gods were invented by mnen, and are as sexist as the men who invented them.
Ditto for goddesses.
Reply:That was when men were really men, and took pride in caring for thier fmilys, most of them anyway. know they dont do that so woman have no choice but to show that God to gave us brains.
Reply:The bible claims men and women are equal with different roles. Eve's curse was childbearing, Adam's curse was hard work. And both were responsible for the sin. It says that when Eve took the fruit, Adam was with her. He failed to lead her and protect her by remaining silent and watching.
If you read the rest of the bible, you will find the story of Tamar who was raped by her brother. God dealt justice. Also, Paul says, "Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the Church and died for her."
Reply:Esther %26amp; Ruth are books of the Old Testament and they were women. Almighty God and Jesus Christ revered and respected women, while most all civilizations of the times, saw women as less valuable than a dog or a donkey or a camel.
When Almighty God made Eve, He took a rib from Adam. Not from Adam's foot or head. He took a rib, so that woman would walk beside, not ahead, not behind, and not under the foot of Adam...but as a helpmate, walking beside Adam.
Adam had never had to suffer strenuous labor and sweat to achieve all that he and Eve had in the garden of Eden. All his wishes and needs were met. When Adam sinned he lost all of that. He then had to work against nature and man and creatures to obtain food, water, %26amp; shelter.
Deuteronomy 22 refers to the protective laws of women. A woman's greatest earthly value to herself and to her father was her purity (her viginity). If a man willingly or not, through superior strength laid with a virgin, her chance of a love match, of creating and making alliances with families through her marriage to the son of a family were no longer possible. So the law insured that the father was paid for the man's taking his daughter's priceless virginity, and the woman, who was no longer a virgin became the man's wife for life to insure that she was protected and provided for for life.
The ten virgins, are referring to Christians in general. 5 virgins who were ready and prepared and anticipating the groom's arrival and the coming wedding feast, and those other five virgins who were not ready, had not prepared for the groom's arrival. Virgins are men and women. It is not speaking of just women, but about all Christians, who all KNOW that the groom (Jesus) IS coming back for His Bride (Christians) and some are prepared and ready and watching vigilantly for His return and have everything in readiness for the wedding feast, as opposed to those who KNOW Jesus is returning but are not prepared, ready, waiting, and watching for His return.
Reply:You really have no idea what Christianity is about, sad to say.

You can tell it was written by men and the women who swallow this BS are twice the fools.

Fireball226 - Eve didn't sin first. Adam sinned first by not telling Eve that the fruit was forbidden. Don't you even know your own bible.

Reply:No He is not sexist - yes you would be wrong in thinking sexism is ok
maybe you could look a little harder and try understanding the Bible instead of just taking verses out of context and telling us what you think they mean - you got it wrong on every one
Reply:God is created in the image of men, most of them who were sexist... until 19th century.
Reply:Romans 1:22
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Reply:In the first century, some women had the privilege of ministering to Jesus and his apostles. (Luke 8:1-3) Later, Christian women became zealous evangelizers; others gave valuable support to Christian men who were taking the lead, including the apostle Paul; and some showed exceptional hospitality.
That Jehovah would use women in a mighty way in the outworking of his purpose was foretold in the Scriptures. For instance, Joel 2:28, 29 predicted that both men and women, young and old, would receive holy spirit and share in spreading the good news of the Kingdom. That prophecy began to be fulfilled at Pentecost 33 C.E. (Acts 2:1-4, 16-18)
Women were well treated among God’s servants in Bible times. Of course, in considering customs involving women in those days, it is helpful to keep several things in mind. First, when the Bible tells of unpleasant situations that developed because of selfish domination by wicked men, that does not mean that God approved of such treatment of women. Second, although Jehovah tolerated certain customs among his servants for a time, he regulated these in order to protect women.
Reply:God chose a woman to give birth to His Son, the Savior of the World. That's all I need to know about what God thinks of women.
Luke 1:
46 And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; 47 my spirit rejoices in God my savior. 48 For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. 49 The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him. 51 He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.
52 He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly. 53 The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty. 54 He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, 55 according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever."
Reply:God has no gender and the word God is not male either it only stand for grand order devine it is like wood it is like stone how can you put gender to it and try to make it goddess rather then stoness and woodess
Reply:According to the bible, yep. The bible can bite my butt.
