Do Christians believe that Jesus IS GOD?

If He IS God, as in the "Father", why wouldn't He agree with the guy who called Him "good Master" (Matthew 19: 16-17)? Even though you use scriptures like John 10: 30, you forget the rest ofthe story. You forget the numbers of times that He said that He is the SON OF GOD. Even after He was risen from the dead, He said to Mary "Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." Why not just say something like "I'm going to my home for a little while. Tell my sons that I'll be back in a little while, for I am your God and their God."? Why go through all the trouble of praying until His sweat became as blood to someone that He called "Oh my Father" if that was himself? (Matthew 26: 39)

What gives anyway? He knew His place, Why don't you?

Do Christians believe that Jesus IS GOD?
Well, of course, he isn't God. That is clear from Scripture, and as you said, why would he be praying and crying out to himself. That's just laughable. But, as you can see, so many actually believe it.

The answers are bizarre to say the least. They make no sense whatsoever, and yet these people cling to it, saying, well, we weren't meant to understand, God's way is above us.

That may be, but the Bible is FOR us, and for that reason it's plainly stated time and again that Christ is the son of the true God. There is only one God. The holy spirit is a force, NOT another spirit creature. Jesus was the firstborn of creation, created by God, Jehovah.

So many are having their ear tickled by the pagan doctrine of man called trinity. It's very sad.
Reply:Jesus was and is both God and Man.
Reply:To sum it all up for you, question. Why is it then that when ANY one else had someone, anyone fall to their feet trying to worship either the Disciples or Angels for that matter, they all said, Do not worship at my feet! But when people fell down at Jesus' feet, He allowed them to? P.S. I can also Outline His Holy Deity for you too if you ever wanted more proof of His Holy Divinity!
Reply:Of course. I am sure you have heard about the trinity, the triune nature of God? One being in three distinct persons? Jesus is not the Father, the Father is not the Holy Spirit, yet all three are God. If you do not believe in the triune nature of God, how do you explain these Old Testament passages?

Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. A declaration of Jehovah to my Lord: Sit at My right hand, until I place Your enemies as Your footstool.

Psa 110:2 Jehovah shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion to rule in the midst of Your enemies.

You have two distinct persons, Jehovah and to David, "my Lord", who are these distinct, different persons?

Gen 1:26 And God said, let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creepers creeping on the earth.

The word for God here is "Elohim" a plural form of God. Since we know only God is a creator, who was He talking to? Couldn't be angels since the person speaking and spoken to would have to be involved in the creation process.
Reply:The dogma of the Trinity is that there are three distinct persons in ONE God. God the Father is NOT God the Son nor God the Holy Spirit. The Trinity existed even before all of creation since it is the true nature of God Himself. In time, God the Son assumed human nature in the form of Jesus. Therefore, Jesus is both God and man since it is the second person of the Trinity that assumed real manhood without losing His Divinity.
Reply:Excellent question! Yes, Christians believe that Jesus IS God.

First, you have to go to the Old Testament to understand about the New Testament. Familiar ground, right? In Genesis, God says "Let US make man in OUR image." Just who was He talking to? He was talking to Himself. He was calling Himself a plural.

You are no doubt familiar with the famous quote, "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, He is One God." Very true powerful words, but often mis-translated. I am not a Hebrew scholar, but I believe what I have read in commentaries that the word "God" in this case is actually a plural of three or more. So, a literal translation would be as follows "Hear O Israel, the Lord our Gods is One Gods."

Yes, I know that is not good grammar. But I do have a point. Every word of God is inspired correctly and accurately. This is the foundation for the Christian belief in the Trinity. Yes, we believe in only one God, but we believe He has three forms, persay. The forms are often called the Father (known in the Old Testament), the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit (also known in the Old Testament but given to us in a new way after Jesus left earth). This may not make a lot of sense at first, but it must be taken on faith.

Isaiah 9:6 records that Messiah is God. (Jesus claimed to be the Messiah, so He did claim to be God by claiming to be the Messiah.) There are other Old Testament proofs as well.

And yes, Jesus did know His place - He is God! Just read the rest of John. Read John 8-10. Jesus said "Before Abraham was, I AM." The Jews picked up stones to kill Him with. They knew what He was claiming.

Or consider the disciple Thomas, after Jesus was resurrected from the dead, Thomas saw Jesus and said to Him, "My Lord and my God." Jesus did not repremand him for saying He was God. At other times people fell at Jesus' feet and worshipped Him. He never said not to, despite that He was a devout Jew and He would never condone idolatry. He believed that He was God, and I believe He is God.

The reason that He didn't say "I'm going to my home for a while. Tell my sons that I'll be back in a little while, for I am your God and their God" is because Jesus alone is not the entire "Godhead." Jesus is only part of God. He is not God all by Himself. But He is Deity. Suppose God was divided into thirds, then Jesus would be one third. But that is putting it a little too simply perhaps.

Ok. Well to summarize all of this, Jesus believed that He was God. And I believe that He is God. All Christians for all of time have believed this. (See Philippians, Hebrews.) But you have to decide this. Either He was a liar or He was insane or He actually is God.

Everyone says Jesus was just a good teacher. But "good teachers" don't go about saying that they are God. Good teachers say "fear God and worship Him only." So He had to be either a heretic or a liar or God Himself. Who do YOU say He is?
Reply:Jesus is Second Person of the Godhead. He is not God the Father. The Holy Spirit is Third Person of the Godhead. Three in one but all have personalities.
Reply:First off before I answer it is important to remember that God is not limited to human form or thinking. This in and of itself is a good reason why people have an imperfect idea of this Trinity.

There is ONE God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each define one unique characteristic of the same God.

One of my favorite chapters in Genesis is called "The Three Visitors" (Genesis 18:1):

"2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:"

Both the Old and New Testaments reach that God is Unity as well as Trinity. The Trinity means that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are each equal persons and eternally One. The Persons of the Godhead are equal in nature, separate in person, but submissive in the duties that They perform.

In the Old Testament the Trinity is implied when the Godhead is seen talking among Itself: "Let Us make man in Our image"(Gen1:26), "Let Us go down"(Gen 11:7), and "Who will go for Us?" (Isaiah 6:8)

The three-fold Trinity is seen in (Isaiah 48:16) "I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, I was there, and now the Lord God and His Spirit have sent Me." It is a reference to Jesus Christ, the Messiah, who is speaking, and the "Spirit" of the Holy Spirit.

The New Testament teaches the Trinity when Jesus said "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father... He will testify of Me" (John 15:26).

"... baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit" (Matt. 28:19)

Jesus, the only begotten Son of the Father (John 3:16) also claimed to be God when He said "'I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,' says the Lord 'who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty'" (Rev. 1:8)

Isaiah 44:6 - "Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the first and I am the last, and there is no God besides Me."

God Bless You.
Reply:true christians don't believe in the trinity for it dishonours the creator of all things Jehovah , He is the almighty to whom Jesus was refering to in all those scriptures you quoted. i don't understand how people professing to be christian can deny this without denying the bible itself
Reply:I don't think Jesus is God....but I think many Christians do. It is even clear throughout the Bible, that God is written two different ways. "GOD" is God, and "God" (with only first letter capitol) is referring to Jesus. Who was Jesus praying to if He was God? Himself? Makes no sense.
Reply:If the God Yahweh made an exact clone of Himself in human form then what would that make Jesus.
Reply:There is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

They are three in one that make up the Godhead.

God himself became flesh, Which was Jesus Christ the Son of God. Which walked among men for thirty three and one half years.Jesus said that when you have seen me you have seen the Father. One in the same just in a different form.

When God was here in the flesh form which was Jesus Christ, He was as a man, a sinless man, He prayed to the Father just as any other Human would and was guided by the Holy Spirit. Until the resurrection, He rose as 100% deity and was no longer of the flesh.
Reply:Jesus Christ is God.. But not as "in the Father"... The "Jesus Only" doctrine claims this but it is wrong.. Google "Jesus Only Doctrine" for more information on that...

True Christians believe that Jesus Christ is God.. He is the second Person of the Triune God.. One God consisting of three Divine Persons.. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The first mention of the "triunity God" is in Genesis.. "In the beginning "Elohim" (God) created the Heaven and the Earth...

For a fairly comprehensive study of the God the Son read John 1, Romans 1, and Collosians 1.

I doubt if you will take the time to read this.. I agree with the answerer that said your "question" was more of a "rant" than a "question"....
Reply:when Jesus Christ prays and calls the Father,He speaks in his humanity.,He calls Himself the Son of Man ;in his divinity

,He calls Himself the Son of God.In Luke 22:42 Jesus Crist

called out to God,Saying,Father,If thou be willing, remove this cup from me:neverthless not my will, but thine,be done."This

does not mean there is another God higher than He.1John

5:20,"...and we know him that is true:and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God,and eternal life."Therefore,Jesus Christ is God Himself.....from..

Reply:I cannot understand why most chistians believe Jesus is God - for Jesus was born from a mother named Mary, He was therefore the son of Mary and The Son of Jehovah God.
Reply:What place would that be? What would your point be? Is this simply a rant, which is against the rules?
Reply:Of course!!!!!! Jesus is God manifest in the flesh.
Reply:I don't believe he is God the Father. I think he is divine and I worship him. But I don't think he is God the Father. He is the SON of God, and he is a separate being. God and Jesus are not the same person.

You forgot one other example-- when Jesus was on the cross he said "Father, why hast thou forsaken me?". If he is God... was he talking to himself??? Is his schizophrenic or something?
Reply:Jesus is God in the flesh
Reply:Depends on which Christians you ask! I'm catholic we believe in Jesus as the son of god and the trinity! and I totally understand what your saying there and agree with you!
