I have pain in my muscles, tendons, and joints....feel like I have the flu. I feel weak, tired, swollen miserable. I have a stinging pain all over......and I can't stand anyone to touch me, not even clothes. When I have a flare up, the pain is unbearable and nothing helps.
Do I have fibromyalgia?

Reply:I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue - it is manageable but the trick is finding a Dr to take you seriously - I went to 5 different Drs who told me I was just depressed and it took 6 months to finally get a diagnosis - I was walking around like a zombie because I couldnt sleep even though I was really tired for me the pain was almost an afterthought I just wanted sleep but the more tired I got the more pain I had and the less sleep I got - apparently with Fibromyalgia you dont reach level 4 sleep and thats why I was waking every hour to two - finally a Dr referred me to a rheumatologist after a heap of tests were done to rule out other conditions and I was given my diagnosis and medication - now 3 years down the track I still get tired easily but I feel much healthier and happier - I go through complete remissions and then it comes back at other times it can depend on illnesses like a cold or virus or even stress levels or if I dont listen to my body and slow down or stop when I need to - it is manageable - take your list of symptoms to your Dr and ask to see a rheumatologist who knows about fibromyalgia and see where it takes you - I cant say if you have it or not as its a diagnosis by elimination - they need to make sure you dont have other conditions that can present the same first as there is no real test for fibromyalgia - you cant see it in a blood test or on an xray - most of all listen to your body - when you need to rest do so.
Reply:with you having RA I presume you see a rheumatologist. They can diagnose you with Fibromyalgia. The definition of Fibro says first pain on all four quadrants of the body ( left, right, above and below the waist) second pain in 11 of the 18 tender points.
I have personally been where wrinkles in clothes, sheets hurt but I have never heard of anyone having problems with just wearing clothes.
You say you have flare ups what's different? Does the pain totally stop? I have had fibro for 6 years and while the degree of pain decreases it never goes away.
Reply:sounds like you have all of the symptoms, don't let doctors tell you there is nothing wrong. I saw about 4 different doctors by the time I was diagnosed with this. It was after about 2 years and many many tests, a few of which were painful! I suggest you see a Rumethologist %26lt;- sorry I can't spell. In the meantime, take hot baths, take about 2 aleaves per day. My doctor has put me on... Cymbalta (for depression...comes with the Syndrome), Lyrica ( the only FDA approved medication out there to treat fibromyalgia, but beware because it is VERY expensive) and a sleep aid that I don't know the name of! I hope you do not have it though because I wouldn't wish this sydrome on my worst enemy! It is horrible and I litterally cry from the pain! Good luck. Reply:You need to go to the doctor to find out for sure. FibroMyalga is very treatable, dont stress just aks our doctor and it will all be ok good luck.
Reply:Hi Sunshine,
Firstly, it looks like it has to be established that you do have fibromyalgia. In order to do that, the doctor will have to test for other diseases and eliminate them to come to a reasonable diagnosis. The blood tests that need to be done are for:
- lupus
- arthritis
- infection
- cancer
- joint %26amp; bone dysfunction
- polymyalgia rheumatica
- anemia
Once it's confirmed to be fibromyalgia, you would be given some medications for short term and others for long term. You should also consider undergoing non-drug therapies so that the conditions is managed holistically. Among the common ones are:
~ cognitive behavior therapy
~ biofeedback
~ trigger point injections
~ acupressure or acupuncture
~ massage therapy
Best wishes.
Reply:See your rheumatologist. Early treatment can make a big difference.
