Question about massage therapy?

I've never had a massage before, and am going to have a maternity massage in about 2 weeks. I'm kinda weird about people touching me - not in an outrageous way - I just don't like real touchy feely ppl - especially ppl I don't know. With that said, do you think I should schedule a 30 min or an hour massage? Do you think once I'm getting it I'll enjoy it enough? I just don't want to feel awkward....

Question about massage therapy?
a good massage therapist won't just go right in there and start pounding away at your muscles haha but may take awhile to let you unwind and get comfortable with them. If your too tense it'll take awhile for you to get a full massage because when your too tense you can't do any deep tissue massaging which is the best part. I say go for the hour.
Reply:Best to start off with a 30 min massage as one hour is a long time for someone to be massaging you if you don't like to be touched.

When you are there just remember the reason that you are there for i.e to get some relief from the pregnancy symptoms and just enjoy and relax this wonderful sensation.

You may even feel your bub kick you with delight too...my little one was kicking during mine! lol

All the best
Reply:I think you should go for the hour since the time it takes to get to the massage establishment, check in/out, talk with your therapist and get on the table ends up being alot of effort. Make it worth your time, your body will thank you, especially at the 29 minute mark.

I would definately request to have a female or male therapist ahead of time, whatever your preference is. Also, it is absolutely OK to let your therapist know that this is new for you and you have some apprehensions. Sometimes during a hectic day us massage therapists just dive in and some people may not be ready for that. Don't make a big deal about it, just a quick mention.

If you get a skilled therapist, you should definately enjoy it.
Reply:I wish I could do that for you
Reply:The bodyworker gives massages all day long and won't know you're feeling this way if you don't mention it, thus there won't be any awkwardness coming from her. Go for the hour and let yourself relax. Don't think about what's being done to you. Think about something that will take you far away, like a vacation destination, or playing with your new baby.

Take several deep breaths during the course of the massage and let your muscles totally relax. The therapist will be inspired to do a better job if she hears you taking deep breaths and she knows you're relaxing. Remember, she's a professional, but she's also human. If you're tense you'll give off an energy that says "I don't want to be touched" and you won't get the best work for your money (or gift certificate).
